Healing Hearts with Horses is a 501(c)3 non-profit, Christian based organization working with foster, adoptive, and at-risk children and youth in association with Horse Heaven Rescue. We offer services and programs including Learning Lessons, EAGALA certified Equine Assisted Psychotherapy sessions, and other equine therapies. The “Horse Heaven Rescue” side of our operation is responsible for rescuing horses, typically through owner surrender or “donation”. These horses are rehabilitated and retrained before being available for adoption. Our goal is to find the best possible match between horse and rider and place them in a forever home. Please note that Healing Hearts is entirely volunteer run and located on our director’s personal property. Therefore we are open by appointment only. Contact us today to set up an appointment to visit! To see more photos of the shenanigans at Healing Hearts, please see our facebook page!

Meet our Program Horses
Program horses are residents that we use in learning lessons, Equine Assisted Psychotherapy sessions, fundraising, and educational and therapeutic visits. Some of these horses are permanent residents who are now retired from active duty and some are horses that may go on to find adoptive homes after their term of service is over.

Zena rides in all disciplines, but really shines at Dressage and drives. She was a lesson horse at Kirkwood College but had OCD lesions and could not stand up to the rigors there, but has no problem keeping up with things here. She is a favorite among the hippo-therpay kids as well as Debs and Faiths dream girl. Will you sponsor me?

Lily is the first horse that everyone rides when they come to Healing Hearts. She’s an angel for lunge line lessons, perfect for beginners, and fun for intermediate riders as well! Sometimes she’s grouchy! Lily doesn’t like to share her hay or her space with other horses! We love her even when she’s being cranky. Lily has recurring issues with founder and also has equine metabolic syndrome. We continue to manage these issues and will for the rest of Lily’s life. We expect Lily to be a permanent HHH resident when she finally retires. She’ll have earned it!! Will you sponsor me?

She was for sale on Craigslist and Deb just happened to fall in love. She didn’t have time to go see her and she was told she was sold, So Deb figured it wasn’t meant to be and then the people contacted Deb and said they didn’t show up to get her. We NEVER buy horses and the lady said she just wanted her in a good home and said she would reduce the price. So on a windy day , Deb went over and worked with her, fell more in love and purchased her. She had not been ridden at age 6 but is smart and has had ground work done. She is a program horse in the making. She has been riding the last 2 summers and is pretty solid. She is honest and tries hard. She is a favorite of everyone, not only pretty but kind! Willie is the resident therapy pony. Willie does everything: he will pull a cart, he’s been in a ton of parades, he gives pony rides to toddlers, he does therapy visits to nursing homes, happily walks inside buildings, and even rides on the elevator! Willie is a permanent resident and we are happy to have him. Willie’s the perfect size for cuddling and snuggling! Will you sponsor me?

Saltee is a forever pony here, He was in a parade in Runnells one year and you know how Deb loves ponies! She told the lady if he ever needed a home she would take him. And that is how that began. Saltee has proven himself a great therapy pony and has been taught to drive by Afton as well. He is really enjoying driving! He has been in parades, costume class (1st place last year! ) and is a favorite of every little kid who comes on the place! We love him and he has proven to enjoy what we do here with a great attitude. Will you sponsor me?
